2013 EPB-UNF Environmental Symposium

The 2013 EPB - UNF Environmental Symposium, "Innovation, Conservation, & Sustainability", was held August 23rd.

Terence Ashanta-Barker, Director of Neighborhoods, provided opening remarks.
Melissa Long with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection discussed the River Accord Annual Status Report.
Jessica Petote with Ruth N. Upson Elementary won the newly created EPB-DCPS Environmental Champion Award for her leadership in engaging students, teachers, and parents in sustainability initiatives.

Margaret Flowe, Ruby Tucker, and Katheryn Russel worked the registration table.
Dr. Pyati with UNF gave part of the talk on the "State of the River Report".

In the morning Energy Session, Bill Wooten with MOSH discussed the Museum Retrofit.
Rising Tides, represented by Mike Field and Shannon Blankenship, won the Community/Civic Environmental Achievement Award for engaging young professionals in conservation, sustainability, and environmental awareness.

Latasha was another of the tireless registration workers.
Steve Jenkins, EPB Chair, opened the Symposium.

Ray Oldakowski with Jacksonville University discussed the results of a poll regarding the St. Johns River.
Catherine Tappouni was the Host for the morning Sustainability Session.
Jeff Cole, Chief of Staff, St. Johns River Water Management District, gave the keynote address during lunch.
Ron Littlepage with the Times Union won the Christi P.Veleta Environmental Award for his environmental advocacy and educational outreach.

Stuart Chalk, PhD, Interim Director of UNF Environmental Center gave a welcome to UNF.
Dr. Sonnenberg with Jacksonville University gave the second half of the presentation on the State of the River Report.

Deutsche Bank, represented by Michael Flemming and Jason Worley, won the Environmental Achievement Award in the Business Catagory for thier Passion for the Planet Program.
